Goldflake Wrasse

(Labropsis polynesica)

Labropsis Wrasse should be added to well established aquariums with plenty of swim room. Plenty of rock work with overhangs, caves, cracks and crevices for hiding and grazing. Labropsis Wrasse will also need a deep sand bed. Although Labropsis Wrasse are considered peaceful they will pick at stony polyp corals, crustaceans, small marine fish and clam mantles. A diet of meaty foods should be provided to supplement Labropsis Wrasse diets. Juveniles, males and females will only exhibit slightly color differences. Wrasse are hermaphrodites meaning they start as juveniles/females but at some point in their life may turn into a male. Wrasse will jump an aquarium with a tight fitting lid should be provided. House with other peaceful tank mates.

The Goldflake Wrasse are sometimes also known simply as the Polynesian Tubelip Wrasse. Rarely seen in the aquarium trade. Beautifully colored with a dark brown body and horizontal golden yellow stripes on its body. Its head is a yellow to brown color with males having an orange spot on its gill cover, lips and surroundings are light blue with a dark blue spot on the corners of their mouths. Fins are a yellow to green color with iridescent blue borders, blue trimmed black caudal fin and an orange pectoral and abdominal fins. Goldflake Wrasse can grow to a little over 3".

We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 50 gallons or larger for this species.
