East-Australian Stripey

(Microcanthus strigatus)

Add Common Stripey's to large aquariums with plenty of open swim room as they are fast swimmers that prefer to school. Provide plenty of rock work with an abundant amount of naturally occuring algae. Stripey's will require caves, cracks and crevices to retreat into for resting and hiding. They make a great beginner fish as they are easy to take care of and quite peaceful. Stripey's have also been found in brackish areas. Maintain with other peaceful tank mates. Offer a diet rich in meaty and algae based foods.

Common Stripey are also sometimes known as the Australian Stripey. They are occasionally seen in the aquarium trade. Common Stripey have a distinctive appearance, with a gold to silver body and black horizontal stripes. They can grow up to 6 inches in length.

We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 120 gallons or larger for this species.
