Streamlined Rabbitfish, Juvenile

(Siganus argenteus)

Siganus Rabbitfish also known as Spinefoots are a favorite among hobbists. They should be added to well established aquariums with plenty of room to swim. Plenty of rock work should be provided for grazing, resting and hiding. Siganus Rabbitfish are generally herbivores but if not fed well enough may pick at tunicates, sponge or even coral. A diet rich in algae based foods should be readily provided. Care will need to be taken when handling Rabbitfish as they have venomous spines. Siganus Rabbitfish are considered peaceful towards most fish except other Rabbitfish, consider adding only one per aquarium. Siganus Rabbitifish have the unique ability to camouflage themselves while sleeping or when frightened.

Streamlined Rabbitfish are also sometimes known as the Streamline Spinefoot. Uncommonly seen in the aquarium trade. Streamlined Rabbitfish are generally a light blue to gray color fading to a silver colored belly. Light yellow spots, yellow spots, yellow stripe along the dorsal fin and a dark brown bar on the upper margin of the gill cover. Streamlined Rabbitfish can grow to slightly more than 15" but more commonly seen at almost 10".

We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 150 gallons or larger for this species.
