Silver Squaretail Mullet

Provide Liza Mullets with a well filtered, well established aquarium with plenty of rockwork, caves, cracks and crevices. Liza Mullets will need ample swim room and plants. Water placements depend on the fishs age. Conceived in marine waters, they spawn in estuaries juveniles then try to cross into freshwater while they mature and eventually end up back in estuaries. Liza Mullets are not senstitive to temperature usually adapting well. Liza Mullets can be kept with other peaceful tank mates of similar size but can be quite territorial. They will also require moderate water flow to continue to thrive. They are omnivores and will require a diet rich in meaty and algae based foods such as Spirulina, Seaweeds, Brine Shrimp and Bloodworms.

Silver Squaretail Mullets are also sometimes known as the Diamondscale or Striped Mullet. They are occasionally seen in the aquarium trade, but they are not as common as other species Mullet Fish. The Silver Squaretail Mullet has a silver-gray body with a bluish tint. This species may jump out of the aquarium be sure to provide a tight fitting lid. They can grow up to 16 inches in length, although they are usually smaller in the aquarium.

We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 100 gallons or larger for this species.
