Sand Tilefish

(Malacanthus latovittatus)

Malacanthus Tilefish should be added to well established aquariums with plenty of stable rockwork. Provide caves, cracks and crevices, wide open swim areas and sandy areas to create burrows. Tilefish are good jumpers ensure a tight fitting lid. Tilefish are fast swimming, peaceful and hardy fish that make a beautiful addition to aquariums. Tilefish are timid and prefer dimmly lit aquariums. Housing Tilefish with other peaceful tank mates will ensure active daytime swimming. Some Tilefish have been known to quickly change coloration. Once acclimated Tilefish will readily accept most prepared meaty diets. A diet of live enriched adult Brine, Glass/Grass or Black Worms may need to be fed if fish are not accepting prepared foods during acclimation.

Sand Tilefish are also sometimes known as the Blue Blanquillo. Rarely seen in the aquarium trade. Sand Tilefish have a dark body color with a black horizontal stripe trimmed with white. Sand Tilefish can grow to a little over 18".

We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 200 gallons or larger for this species.
