Flagtail Tilefish

(Malacanthus brevirostris)

Malacanthus Tilefish should be added to well established aquariums with plenty of stable rockwork. Provide caves, cracks and crevices, wide open swim areas and sandy areas to create burrows. Tilefish are good jumpers ensure a tight fitting lid. Tilefish are fast swimming, peaceful and hardy fish that make a beautiful addition to aquariums. Tilefish are timid and prefer dimmly lit aquariums. Housing Tilefish with other peaceful tank mates will ensure active daytime swimming. Some Tilefish have been known to quickly change coloration. Once acclimated Tilefish will readily accept most prepared meaty diets. A diet of live enriched adult Brine, Glass/Grass or Black Worms may need to be fed if fish are not accepting prepared foods during acclimation.

Flagtail Tilefish are also sometimes known as the Quackerfish. Not often seen in the aquarium trade. Flagtail Filefish are a beautifully colored pale blue throughout its entire body. Flagtail Tilefish can grow to a little over 12".

We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 100 gallons or larger for this species.
