Tripod Fish

(Tripodichthys strigilifer)

Tripodfish should be added to well established aquariums with plenty of room to swim. They are slow swimmers, an aquarium with low water flow is required. Plenty of rock work with cracks, crevices and caves should be provided for grazing and hiding. Tripodfish may not be reef safe and may pick at benthic invertebrates, stony corals, soft corals. Tripodfish are generally shy and should only be housed with other peaceful fish. Although Tripodfish primerally feed on a diet of meaty based foods fed twice daily the addition of algae based foods should be provided for continued good health. Tripodfish may be capable of changing their color and pattern to camoflouge itself matching its surroundings to protect itself. Tripodfish have been seen in brackish waters.

Tripod Fish are also sometimes known as the Long Spined Tripodfish They are not often seen in the aquarium trade. Tripod Fish have a slender diamond shaped silver body with golden yellow spots and thick lines. The Tripod Fish can grow up to 10 inches in length.

We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 100 gallons or larger for this species.
