Whitespotted Pygmy Filefish
(Rudarius ercodes)
Filefish should be added to well established aquariums with plenty of room to swim. They are slow swimmers, an aquarium with low water flow is required. Plenty of rock work with cracks, crevices and caves should be provided for grazing and hiding. Filefish may not reef safe and may pick at benthic invertebrates. Although most Filefish will pick at coral polyps this fish seems to leave them alone. Filefish are generally shy and should only be housed with other peaceful fish. Although Filefish primarily feed on a diet of meaty based foods fed twice daily the addition of algae-based foods should be provided for continued good health. Filefish may be capable of changing their color and pattern to camouflage itself matching its surroundings to protect itself. Whitespotted Pygmy Filefish are also sometimes known as Whitespotted Filefish. Not often found in the aquarium trade. Whitespotted Pygmy Filefish are quite lovely with cream to white spots covering their yellow to brown all over body color. Whitespotted Pygmy Filefish can grow to almost 3". We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 50 gallons or larger for this species. Water conditions: Salinity 1.020 – 1.025, Temp (F) 72 – 78, pH 8.1 – 8.4, Alkalinity 8 – 12 dKH
