Blue Devil Damselfish, Male

(Chrysiptera cyanea, male)

Chrysiptera Damselfish should be added to well established aquariums with plenty of room to swim. Plenty of rock work should be provided for grazing and hiding. Chrysiptera Damselfish may pick at small benthic crustaceans. Chrysiptera Damselfish are quite easy and hardy they make good beginner fish. Be sure to thoroughly research each species as some Chrysiptera Damselfish are known to be quite territorial and aggressive. They should be housed with large tank mates that are not easily harrassed. A diet of meaty and algae based foods which includes Spirulina should be provided. Males and females are difficult to differentiate however males tend to be slightlyly larger.

The Blue Devil Damselfish are also known as the Orangetail Damselfish. Commonly seen in the aquarium trade. These are quite lovely fish with females having a blue body and a black spot at the back of the dorsal fin. Males are the same color but will have an orange colored tail. They can grow to a little over 3".

We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 30 gallons or larger for this species.
