Thompson's Butterflyfish

Hemitaurichthys Butterflyfish should be added to large well established aquariums with plenty of room to swim. Plenty of rock work should be provided for grazing and hiding. Hemitaurichthys Butterflyfish are considered hardy, will generally adapt well in aquariums and should be kept with other peaceful tank mates. Hemitaurichthys Butterflyfish use their long noses to explore cracks and crevices for food and may pick at tube worms, crustaceans and clam mantles if not well fed. A diet of meaty foods including live fortified Brine and mysis shrimp and black or red worms should be provided. If not readily eating try pressing foods into holes or crevices mimicing their natural feeding habits. Hemitaurichthys Butterflyfish are considered peaceful and be kept in groups.

The Thompson's Butterflyfish are rarely seen in the aquarium trade. This species is not as brightly colored as most other Butterflyfish however it is quite a hardy fish. Thompson's Butterflyfish are an overall somber colored light gray. Thompson's Butterflyfish can grow to 7".

We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 125 gallons or larger for this species.
