Japanese Kelpfish

(Pseudoblennius marmoratus)

Pseudoblennius Blennies should be added to well established aquariums with rock work for perching, hiding and grazing. They can be a bit aggressive and territorial towards smaller, less aggressive tank mates. Pseudoblennius Blennies are often found in shallow, sandy bottomed areas of rocky reefs. Pseudoblennius Blennies like to inhabit empty barnacle shells and mollusk tubes. Provide a diet rich in algae and meaty foods. Most Blennies lack or have very small swim bladders. Be sure to provide an aquarium with a tight fitting lid as Blennies may jump.

The Japanese Kelpfish is also known as the Japanese Cattidfish. Rarely seen in the aquarium trade. Japanese Kelpfish coloration is highly variable. They are a marbled black, gray, red and orange. Japanese Kelpfish can grow to a little over 4".

We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 30 gallons or larger for this species.
