Cloister Blenny

(Omobranchus elongatus)

Omobranchus Blennies should be added to well established aquariums with plenty of swim room. Rock work should be provided for perching, hiding and grazing. Omobranchus Blennies are considered to be easy but may become aggressive and territorial towards fish of similar size. Omobranchus may tolorate and may even prefer brackish or freshwater areas. Provide a diet of meaty and algae based foods, if sufficient algae is not present supplementing with algae based foods is necessary. Omobranchus are benthic and spend quite a bit of time sifting through substrate hunting for copepods and rotifers. May pick at small sessile invertebrates. Most Blennies lack or have very small swim bladders. Be sure to provide an aquarium with a tight fitting lid as Blennies may jump.

The Cloister Blenny is also known as the Chevroned Blenny. Sometimes seen in the aquarium trade. Cloister Blennies have an overall gray color, white diagonal lines behind their eyes, brown irregular stripes or spots on the sides of their body. Unlike other Oyster Blennies the Cloister Blenny does not have the pronounced head crest. Cloister Blenny can grow to 2".

We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 30 gallons or larger for this species.
