Orangeback Basslet

(Serranus annularis)

Known as Dwarf Sea Basses Serranus Basslets are hardy and should be added to well established aquariums with plenty of rockwork and swimming room. Provide a diet of meaty enriched foods along with algae matter. Serranus Basslets have high metabolism's so be sure to feed multiple times a day. considered to be peaceful but can be aggressive towards inhabitants that swim in the lower level of your aquarium. Serranus may pick at small shrimp and crabs. Serranus Basslets are hermaphroditic meaning they may have both sex organs at some point in their lives.

The Orangeback Basslet is also known as the Orangeback Bass. Occasionally seen in the aquarium trade Orangeback Basslets are quite uniquely colored. They have a dark orange upper body fading to a white coloration on its belly, dark patches close to and on the dorsal fin, orange stripes on the lower half of its body and orange spots on its head. Orangeback Basslet can grow to 3".

We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 30 gallons or larger for this species.
