Grunting Toadfish

(Allenbatrachus grunniens)

Allenbatrachus Toadfish should be added to well-established aquariums with stable water conditions and appropriately sized tankmates. Plenty of rock work, caves, and sandy areas should be provided, as this species spends much of its time resting on the substrate or hiding among rocks. Allenbatrachus grunniens is an ambush predator and may consume any fish or crustacean that can fit into its mouth. A diet of appropriately sized marine meaty foods such as shrimp, fish, squid, or other carnivorous offerings should be provided. Care should be taken when handling, as toadfish have delicate skin and venomous dorsal spines; avoid using nets and do not handle directly. This species is best kept singly, as it may be territorial toward similar bottom-dwelling predators. The Grunting Toadfish is prized for its unusual appearance and fascinating behavior. This species is capable of producing audible grunting sounds and displays excellent camouflage, blending in with rocky or sandy environments. Coloration and patterning vary between individuals. The Grunting Toadfish can grow to approximately 10–12". We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 75 gallons or larger for this species. Water conditions: Salinity 1.020 – 1.025, Temp (F) 72 – 78, pH 8.1 – 8.4, Alkalinity 8 – 12 dKH
