Armitage Angelfish

(Apolemichthys armitage)

Apolemichthys armitagei Angelfish should be added to well-established aquariums with plenty of open swimming space. Abundant rockwork with caves, cracks, and crevices should be provided for grazing and shelter. Apolemichthys angelfish may pick at sponges, tunicates, benthic organisms, or other sessile invertebrates, so caution is advised in reef aquariums. A varied diet of meaty and algae-based foods, along with angelfish preparations containing sponge, should be provided. Care should be taken when handling angelfish, as they possess cheek spines; avoid using nets when possible. Apolemichthys angelfish are hermaphroditic, meaning they may possess both sex organs at different stages of their lives. Juvenile Apolemichthys armitagei may display differences in coloration or pattern compared to adults and can be territorial toward other angelfish of similar shape. The Armitage Angelfish is a hard to find and visually striking species, typically pale cream to white with bold dark banding across the body. It is generally found along outer reef slopes and deeper reef environments. Apolemichthys armitagei can grow to a little over 7 inches in length. We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 125 gallons or larger for this species. Water Conditions: Salinity: 1.020 – 1.025 | Temperature: 72 – 78°F | pH: 8.1 – 8.4 | Alkalinity: 8 – 12 dKH
