Red Finger Gorgonian

(Diodogorgia nodulifera)

Diodogorgia corals are found in various locations throughout the world's oceans, including the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans. They are often found in deeper waters, ranging from a few meters to several hundred meters deep. They typically inhabit areas with strong currents, attaching themselves to rocky or sandy substrates. Diodogorgia corals are non-photosynthetic, which means they do not contain zooxanthellae, the symbiotic algae that carry out photosynthesis. Instead, they rely entirely on capturing small food particles, such as plankton and other organic matter, from the water column for their nutrition. Diodogorgia corals are challenging to care for in aquariums. They require specific water parameters, including stable temperature, salinity, and water quality. They prefer moderate to strong water flow, which helps simulate their natural habitat and low lighting. Providing suitable filtration and regular maintenance, including water changes, is important for their well-being. Diodogorgia corals, like many other soft corals, generally have a higher tolerance to copper compared to stony corals. However, it's important to maintain copper levels within safe limits in the aquarium to prevent any potential harm to the corals and other tank inhabitants. Diodogorgia corals belong to the family Gorgoniidae, which includes a wide variety of sea fans and sea whips. Diodogorgia corals can also provide shelter and habitat for small invertebrates and fish in the aquarium. Corals will benefit from the addition of Calcium, Strontium, Iodine, Magnesium and Trace Elements.

Diodogorgia Corals are also be known as Tree or Finger Gorgonian. Not often seen in the aquarium trade. Diodogorgia corals are known for their intricate and unique patterns, often displaying vibrant colors such as shades of red, orange or yellow. Some species have fluorescent pigments that can add a stunning glow under appropriate lighting conditions. Diodogorgia Corals will vary greatly in size and formation.
