Moon Jellyfish
(Aurelia aurita)
Moon Jellyfish are captivating invertebrates that require specialized kreisel-style aquariums to thrive. These circular tanks are designed to maintain a gentle, continuous “gyre” flow, which keeps the jellyfish suspended in the water column and prevents them from being pulled into filtration systems. This flow pattern also helps concentrate their food toward the center of the tank, making feeding more efficient. Moon Jellies are nearly transparent, featuring a delicate outer bell and a second inner structure, along with faint bluish markings that often resemble a four-leaf clover. They feed using tiny pulsing cilia around the bell that move food into a central digestive area, and this process does not distinguish between live and prepared foods. As a result, they readily accept a variety of options, including thawed frozen foods and live offerings. While Nutramar Live Artemia Nauplii are ideal, Tropic Marin Jellyfish Food also provide excellent nutrition for maintaining healthy, thriving jellyfish.
