Rhinoceros Leatherjacket Filefish
(Pseudalutarius nasicornis)
Leatherjackets should be added to well established aquariums with plenty of room to swim. They are slow swimmers, an aquarium with low water flow is required. Plenty of rock work with cracks, crevices and caves should be provided for grazing and hiding. Leatherjackets may not be reef safe and may pick at benthic invertebrates, stony corals, soft corals and may consume aiptasia. Leatherjackets are generally shy and should only be housed with other peaceful fish. Although Leatherjackets primarily feed on a diet of meaty based foods fed twice daily the addition of algae-based foods should be provided for continued good health. Pseudalutarius Leatherjackets are capable of changing their color and pattern to camouflage itself to match its surroundings. Rhinoceros Leatherjacket are also sometimes known as Rhino Filefish. Not often found in the aquarium trade. Rhinoceros Leatherjackets are a silver to white color with two brown stripes and a large black spot on its tail. Rhinoceros Leatherjacket can grow to a little over 7".
We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 75 gallons or larger for this species.
