Anglerfish, Colored
(Antennarius sp.)
Antennarius species (Frogfish) should be added to well-established aquariums with stable water conditions and peaceful tankmates. Plenty of rock work, ledges, and perching areas should be provided, as Frogfish spend much of their time resting and ambushing prey. Antennarius sp. are ambush predators and may consume any fish or crustacean that can fit into their mouth. A diet of appropriately sized marine meaty foods such as fish, shrimp, or other carnivorous offerings should be provided. Care should be taken when handling Frogfish, as they have delicate skin and can be stressed easily; avoid using nets and never expose them to air. Antennarius species are solitary and should generally be kept alone unless in very large systems with careful monitoring. Colored Anglers are highly prized for their unusual appearance and fascinating hunting behavior. Frogfish display incredible camouflage abilities, often mimicking sponges, rocks, or algae, and use a modified dorsal spine (illicium) to lure prey. Coloration, pattern, and texture vary widely between individuals and species. Depending on the species, Frogfish can grow to approximately 12". We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 30–75 gallons or larger, depending on the species and adult size. Water conditions: Salinity 1.020 – 1.025, Temp (F) 72 – 78, pH 8.1 – 8.4, Alkalinity 8 – 12 dKH
