Yellow Back Wrasse

(Stethojulis notialis)

Stethojulis Wrasse should be added to a well established aquarium with plenty of open swimroom. Provide plenty of rockwork with caves, cracks and crevices for hunting and hiding. Stethojulis Wrasse need a deep sand bed to sleep in and bury themselves in when frightened. Stethojulis Wrasse may not eat readily when first introduced to the aquarium. If seeing an unwilliness to eat add fortified live mysis, Brine, Glass or Grass shrimp to their carnivorous diet, fed numerous times daily. They are not reef safe and will overturn rocks and rubble in search of benthic invertebrates. Wrasse are hermaphrodites meaning they start as juveniles/females but at some point in their life may turn into a male. Provide an aquarium with a tight fitting lid as they may jump.

The Yellow Back Wrasse are occasionally seen in the aquarium trade. Color may vary depending on maturity of the fish. Yellow Back Wrasse are an overall blue color with a thick yellow stripe on its back highlighted with pink near its head. Yellow Back Wrasse can grow to almost 3".

We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 30 gallons or larger for this species.
