Shoulder-Spot Wrasse

(Leptojulis cyanopleura)

Provide an aquarium with ample rock work with plenty of crevices and caves for hiding and resting. Leptojulis Wrasse are burrowers and need a deep sand bed to sleep and rest in. Harems can be kept in the aquarium with 1 male and several females if added at the same time. Shoulder Spot Wrasse prefer to live in turbid water to feed on Brittle Stars, Crab, Mollusks and Sea Urchins that are stirred up. Adults should be fed twice a day large amounts of meaty foods with juveniles being fed a few more times daily. Avoid adding smaller more peaceful fish as the Leptojulis Wrasse may harass them. Wrasse are hermaphrodites meaning they start as juveniles/females but at some point, in their life may turn into a male. Provide an aquarium with a tight-fitting lid as Wrasse will jump. The Shoulder Spot Wrasse are sometimes also known as the Blue Spot or Blue Sided Wrasse. Occasionally seen in the aquarium trade. Shoulder Spot Wrasse are a pale color with a tan to black stripe, as they mature, they develop a dark spot above and behind its pectoral fin. Shoulder Spot Wrasse can grow to a little over 5". p>We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 50 gallons or larger for this species.
