Spotted Boxfish, Male

Ostracion Boxfish are slow swimmers and should be added to large well established aquariums with plenty of room to swim. Plenty of rock work with ample supply of macro and micro algaes should be provided for grazing. Boxfish may release toxins if threatenedd, picked on or not healthy they should be removed immediately. Activated carbon will remove the toxins. A diet of meaty and algae based foods should be provided. Boxfish may be seen blowing sand looking for small invertebrates to consume. Avoid floating foods as Boxfish may accidently ingest air causing buoyancy issues. House with other peaceful tank mates. Juvenile, males and female Boxfish may exhibit color differences.

Spotted Boxfish are also sometimes known as the White Spotted Boxfish. Occasionally seen in the aquarium trade. Males and females are will generally have small color differences. Males will generally have a blue body with a large black spot on its head along with blue spots while females are generally black with white spots. Spotted Boxfish can grow to almost 10".

We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 200 gallons or larger for this species.
