Little Spinefoot Rabbitfish
(Siganus spinus)
Siganus Rabbitfish also known as Spinefoot’s are a favorite among hobbyists. They should be added to well established aquariums with plenty of room to swim. Plenty of rock work should be provided for grazing, resting and hiding. Siganus Rabbitfish are generally herbivores but if not fed well enough may pick at tunicates, sponge or even coral. A diet rich in algae-based foods should be readily provided. Care will need to be taken when handling Rabbitfish as they have venomous spines. Siganus Rabbitfish are considered peaceful towards most fish except other Rabbitfish, consider adding only one per aquarium. Siganus Rabbitfish have the unique ability to camouflage themselves while sleeping or when frightened. Little Spinefoot are also sometimes known as the Scribbled or Spiny Rabbitfish. Occasionally seen in the aquarium trade. Little Spinefoot generally have an intricate pattern of thin brown lines, mottled fins and irregularly shaped stripes on their caudal peduncle. Little Spinefoot can grow to slightly more than 11" but more commonly seen at around 7".
We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 75 gallons or larger for this species.
