Magnificent Rabbitfish

(Siganus magnificus)

Siganus Rabbitfish also known as Spinefoots are a favorite among hobbists. They should be added to well established aquariums with plenty of room to swim. Plenty of rock work should be provided for grazing, resting and hiding. Siganus Rabbitfish are generally herbivores but if not fed well enough may pick at tunicates, sponge or even coral. A diet rich in algae based foods should be readily provided. Care will need to be taken when handling Rabbitfish as they have venomous spines. Siganus Rabbitfish are considered peaceful towards most fish except other Rabbitfish, consider adding only one per aquarium. Siganus Rabbitifish have the unique ability to camouflage themselves while sleeping or when frightened.

Magnificent Rabbitfish are also sometimes known as the Magnificent Spinefoot. Commonly seen in the aquarium trade. Magnificent Rabbitfish are dark brown to black and white with yellow or red edged fins and a black stripe that runs through its eyes. Magnificent Rabbitfish can grow to slightly more than 9".

We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 125 gallons or larger for this species.
