Spinecheek Goby

(Oplopomus oplopomus)

Oplopomus Gobies should be added to aquariums with plenty of rockwork, cracks, crevices and caves for hiding when threatenedd. Provide an aquarium with a thick sand bed as Oplopomus are considered sand sifters and will scoop up a mouthful of sand, sift it in its mouth for potential prey and then spit it out. They will also burrow into the sand when frightened. Small groups have been housed together in larger aquariums. House with other tank mates that will not out compete Gobies for food. Feed a diet rich in meaty foods twice daily. Provide an aquarium with a tight fitting lid as Gobies are known to jump.

Spinecheek Goby are also sometimes known as the Pretty Lagoon Goby. Not often seen in the aquarium trade. Spinecheek Gobies are quite lovely with a white body with dark and white spots on its body, blue stripes on its anal fin and thin horizontal blue and yellow stripes on its tail. Spinecheek Gobies can grow to almost 5".

We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 30 gallons or larger for this species.
