Purple Firefish

(Nemateleotris decora)

Nemateleotris Firefish should be added to aquariums with plenty of rockwork, cracks, crevices and caves for hiding when threatenedd. Firefish will also need ample swim room with moderate current as they will generally face into the water flow in order to capture food. Small groups have been housed together in larger aquariums. House with other tank mates that will not out compete Firefish for food. Feed a diet rich in meaty foods twice daily as Firefish coloration may fade if not well fed. Provide an aquarium with a tight fitting lid as they are known to jump.

Purple Firefish are also sometimes known simply as the Elegant Firefish. Commonly seen in the aquarium trade. Purple Firefish have an overall yellow body with purple to blue, red trim on its dark blue dorsal and anal fins and red on the upper and lower tail lobes. Purple Firefish can grow to almost 3".

We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 20 gallons or larger for this species.
