Hector's Goby

(Koumansetta hectori)

Koumansetta Gobies are often known as sand sifting Gobies and should be added to well established aquariums with plenty of room to swim. Plenty of rock work, cracks, crevices, caves with a sand bed should be provided for hiding. Koumansetta Gobies are small and fit well in most reef aquariums. They are a good sand sifter hovering over the sand picking up mouths of sand looking for small invertebrates and organic matter. A diet of meaty and algae based foods should be provided multiple times daily. Feed adult, fortified Brine shrimp and black worms if having difficulty enticing a feeding response. They may pick at and consume hair algaes, and red cyanobacteria. Koumansetta Gobies tend to be shy and peaceful house with other peaceful tank mates. They prefer to live singly or in pairs as they may become aggressive to other Goby species. Provide a tight fitting aquarium as Gobies may jump.

Hector's Goby are also sometimes known as the Hector's Hover Goby. Occasionally seen in the aquarium trade. The Hector's Goby is mainly white with thin red to yellow stripes running lengthwise on its body. Hector's Goby can grow to almost 3".

We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 30 gallons or larger for this species.
