Fusilier Damselfish

(Lepidozygus tapeinosoma)

Lepidozygus Damselfish should be added to well established aquariums with plenty of room to swim as they are strong fast swimmers. Plenty of rock work should be provided for grazing and hiding. Lepidozygus Damselfish may pick at small benthic crustaceans. They are quite peaceful fish and should be housed with other peaceful fish. Lepidozygus Damselfish prefer to be kept in small groups. Lepidozygus Damselfish readily accept most meaty and algae based foods and should include Spirulina. Lepidozygus are more slender than other Damselfish and are often seen swimming with groups of Anthias. Their coloration tends to change depending on their behavior.

The Fusilier Damselfish are also known as the Fusilier Demoiselle. Occasionally seen in the aquarium trade. Their coloration may flucuate depending on its mood or activity. Typically a grey or green color with a yellow back and light purple belly. They may also have a yellow patch on the rear of the dorsal fin. When it eats it turns a more silver green color and darkens when the fish is at rest. They can grow a little over 4".

We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 50 gallons or larger for this species.
