Saddle Butterflyfish

(Chaetodon ephippium)

Chaetodon Butterflyfish should be added to well established aquariums with plenty of room to swim. Plenty of rock work should be provided for grazing and hiding. Chaetodon Butterflyfish may pick at corals and crustaceans. A diet of meaty and algae based foods should be provided multiple times daily. Multiples can be added simultaneously to a large aquarium. Chaetodon Butterflyfish tend to be shy and peaceful but can become territorial if their aquarium is to small.

The Saddle Butterflyfish is also known as the Saddleback or Saddled Butterflyfish. Somewhat common in the aquarium trade. Saddle Butterflyfish are quite beautiful with a yellow to gray colored body and a large black spot on the back portion of its body that looks like a saddle. Their throat and pelvic fins are a bright yellow color and blue curved lines in the middle of its body. Adults are seen with long filament on the back of their dorsal fin.
