Chalk Basslet

(Serranus tortugarum)

Known as Dwarf Sea Basses Serranus Basslets are hardy and should be added to well established aquariums with plenty of rockwork and swimming room. Provide a diet of meaty enriched foods along with algae matter. Serranus Basslets have high metabolism's so be sure to feed multiple times a day. considered to be peaceful but can be aggressive towards inhabitants that swim in the lower level of your aquarium. Serranus may pick at small shrimp and crabs. Serranus Basslets are hermaphroditic meaning they may have both sex organs at some point in their lives.

The Chalk Basslet is also known as the Chalk Bass. Commonly seen in the aquarium trade, Chalk Basslets are quite beautiful with their overall orange coloration and icy blue stripes on the dorsal side of the fish and blotchs seen midbody. Chalk Basslet can grow to 3".

We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 30 gallons or larger for this species.
