Noble Anthias, Female

(Pseudanthias nobilis)

Pseudanthias nobilis should be added to well-established aquariums with plenty of room to swim. Abundant rockwork with caves, cracks, and crevices should be provided to offer secure resting and retreat areas. Nobilis Anthias are reef safe and thrive on a diet of enriched, meaty marine foods such as mysis shrimp, finely chopped seafood, copepods, and plankton-based preparations. They should be kept well fed with multiple small feedings throughout the day. Anthias perform best when maintained in groups or harems and prefer to swim in the mid-level areas of the aquarium. Like other anthias, this species is hermaphroditic, meaning individuals may change sex over the course of their lives. Anthias are known jumpers, so a tight-fitting lid is strongly recommended. Males and females may display different coloration, with males typically showing more intense hues. Pseudanthias nobilis is prized for its bold coloration, typically displaying rich purples, yellows, and pinks that intensify under proper lighting. This species can grow to approximately 5 inches in length. We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 90 gallons or larger for this species.
