Leptastrea Coral

(Leptastrea sp.)

Leptastrea corals are a popular choice for reef aquariums due to their beautiful appearance and moderate ease of care. Leptastrea corals are found in various locations throughout the Indo-Pacific region, including the Great Barrier Reef, the Red Sea, and the Pacific Islands. They typically inhabit reef slopes, lagoons, and back reefs. Like most corals, Leptastrea corals have a symbiotic relationship with photosynthetic algae called zooxanthellae. These algae reside within the coral's tissues and provide them with energy through photosynthesis. Leptastrea corals heavily rely on photosynthesis as their primary source of nutrition. Leptastrea corals are considered moderately easy to care for, making them suitable for beginner to intermediate reef keepers. They are generally hardy and adaptable to a wide range of water conditions. However, maintaining stable water parameters, including temperature, salinity, and nutrient levels, is still important for their overall health and growth. They prefer moderate lighting and water flow. Leptastrea corals generally have moderate tolerance to copper. However, it is important to avoid exposing them to high levels of copper or other heavy metals, as they can be toxic to corals. It is recommended to use copper-based medications or treatments with caution and closely monitor the coral's response. They are often sought after by aquarium enthusiasts for their unique appearance. Corals will benefit from the addition of Calcium, Strontium, Iodine, Magnesium and Trace Elements.

Leptastrea Corals are also be known as Star or Crust Corals. Commonly seen in the aquarium trade. The Leptastrea Corals are quite beautiful with a range of cream colors. Leptastrea Corals will vary greatly in size and formation.
