Acanthastrea Corals should be added to well established aquariums with moderate water flow and medium to strong lighting depending on placement within the aquarium. Generally found on reef slopes or lagoons. Acanthastrea Corals are photosynthetic and receive the majority of their nutrients from lighting but will benefit from weekly feedings of a planktonic foods placed in the center of the coral as food is shared with other polyps. Acanthastrea Corals do not tolerate copper medications. Acanthastrea Corals are generally easy to care for and are considered reef safe however space should be given between other corals as they may become a bit aggressive. Corals will benefit from the addition of Calcium, Strontium, Iodine, Magnesium and Trace Elements.
Acanthastrea Echinata Coral may also be known as a Starry Cup Coral. Echinata are the most commonly seen Acanthastrea in the aquarium trade. The Acanthastrea Echinata Corals have a very wide range of colors and hues. Mainly seen in shades of browns, grays and greens however brighter colors are also seen. Acanthastrea Echinata Coral colonies will have larger short polyps with rounded tips.
