The Sea Goblin is a fascinating bottom-dwelling predator admired for its cryptic appearance, elaborate camouflage, and unique "walking" behavior using specialized pectoral fin rays. Native to sandy and rubble-bottom habitats throughout the Indo-Pacific, this venomous stingfish thrives in marine aquariums of at least 75 gallons with a soft sandy substrate, subdued lighting, and plenty of open bottom space. Ideal water conditions include temperatures between 74–80°F, a pH of 8.1–8.4, and excellent filtration. Sea Goblins spend much of their time partially buried in the sand, waiting to ambush unsuspecting prey. Their diet should consist of meaty marine foods such as shrimp, silversides, mysis shrimp, squid, and other appropriately sized seafood. Because they possess venomous dorsal spines and will consume smaller fish and crustaceans, careful tankmate selection and caution during maintenance are essential. With proper care, a peaceful environment, and a varied carnivorous diet, the Sea Goblin becomes a remarkable and highly unusual centerpiece for advanced predator-focused marine aquariums.
