Scott's Greenback Fairy Wrasse
Scott's Greenback Fairy Wrasse is a stunning reef-safe species admired for its brilliant emerald green back, vibrant blue body, and striking red to pink markings, with coloration varying depending on its geographic origin. Males display the most intense colors and perform spectacular flashing displays during courtship or when establishing dominance. This active, peaceful wrasse thrives in a mature reef aquarium with abundant live rock for shelter and plenty of open swimming space. Because they are accomplished jumpers, a tightly fitting lid is essential to prevent escape. A 75-gallon aquarium or larger is recommended for a single adult, with stable water conditions, temperatures of 74–80°F, a pH of 8.1–8.4, and moderate to strong water movement. Scott's Greenback Fairy Wrasse is generally peaceful toward other reef inhabitants but may become territorial toward similarly shaped or colored fairy wrasses, particularly in smaller aquariums. It is best kept with other peaceful reef fish such as clownfish, gobies, blennies, anthias, and tangs, while avoiding aggressive tank mates that may intimidate it. As a carnivore, this wrasse should be offered a varied diet of high-quality Nutramar marine pellets, Gamma frozen mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, finely chopped seafood, and other protein-rich foods two to three times daily. Frequent feedings help maintain its vibrant coloration and energetic behavior. Hardy once acclimated, Scott's Greenback Fairy Wrasse is an excellent choice for experienced marine aquarists seeking a colorful, active centerpiece fish that is considered reef-safe with corals and most ornamental invertebrates.
