The Popsicle Soldierfish is a hardy and visually striking nocturnal marine species recognized for its vibrant red-orange coloration and large reflective eyes adapted for low-light environments. Native to tropical reef habitats in the Atlantic, this peaceful fish thrives in aquariums of 70 gallons or larger with stable water quality, ample swimming space, subdued lighting, and plenty of caves or overhangs for daytime shelter. Popsicle Soldierfish prefer temperatures between 74–80°F and do best in established marine systems with moderate water movement. In captivity, they readily accept a varied carnivorous diet including mysis shrimp, krill, finely chopped seafood, and high-quality frozen preparations, with evening feedings often encouraging more natural activity. They are generally reef-safe with corals but may consume very small ornamental shrimp or tiny fish that can fit in their mouths. Their calm temperament, schooling tendencies, and glowing coloration make them an excellent addition to peaceful fish-only or larger reef aquariums.
