Juvenile Chevron Tang
The Chevron Tang is an attractive marine surgeonfish that requires a large, well-established saltwater aquarium of at least 180 gallons, as adults can reach approximately 10 inches in length. Juveniles display striking orange and black chevron markings, while adults develop a darker coloration with fine blue-green lines. Maintain stable water conditions with a temperature of 72–78°F, salinity of 1.023–1.026 specific gravity, and a pH of 8.1–8.4. This species primarily grazes on algae and detritus, so provide plenty of rock for grazing, marine algae sheets, spirulina, and high-quality herbivore foods, supplemented with occasional meaty foods. It is generally reef-safe and peaceful toward most tankmates, although it may become territorial toward other tangs. Excellent water quality, strong water movement, ample swimming space, and a varied diet are essential for keeping this beautiful fish healthy long-term.
