Majestic Blue Girdled Angelfish
The Majestic Blue Girdled Angelfish is one of the most striking large angelfish in the aquarium hobby. Adults display deep blue bodies accented by a bold yellow-orange band through the midsection and electric blue highlights along the fins. Native to Indo-Pacific reefs, this species is considered moderate to advanced in care and is best suited to aquarists with large, well-established marine systems. Majestic Angelfish reach 10–11 inches in length and require a minimum aquarium size of 125 gallons, with larger tanks strongly recommended for long-term success. A mature aquarium with extensive rock is essential, as they spend much of their time grazing and using caves and overhangs for shelter. They can be territorial, particularly toward other angelfish, and are usually best kept singly unless housed in very large aquariums. In the wild, Pomacanthus navarchus feeds on sponges, tunicates, and algae, so a varied diet is critical in captivity. Successful specimens readily accept sponge-based angelfish preparations, Gamma frozen mysis, chopped seafood, and high-quality Nutramar pellets.
