Cortez Damselfish

(Stegastes rectifraenum)

Stegastes Damselfish should be added to well established aquariums with plenty of room to swim. Plenty of algae covered rock work with caves and crevices should be provided for grazing and hiding. A diet of plant based foods which include Spirulina and Nori should be provided several times daily. These Damselfish can be highly aggressive and territoral careful consideration will need to be given before adding to the aquarium. Only one Stegastes should be added to the aquarium. House with larger fish that are not easily harassed.

The Cortez Damselfish are also known simply as Cortez Gregory. Rarely seen in the aquarium trade. Juvenile and adult Cortez Damselfish with have different colorations. Juveniles are very lovely with a small blue trimmed black spot on the top of its caudal peduncle, another black spot on the dorsal side of the body, with a bright blue body and darker scale margins all highlighted with two neon blue stripes on top of its head. As the fish matures they will begin to fade to brown; darker the further away from its head. They can grow to almost 4".
