Checkered Pufferfish

(Sphoeroides testudineus)

Sphoeroides Pufferfish should be added to well established large aquariums with plenty of room to swim. Puffers do "puff up" if they feel threatenedd. Plenty of rock work with cracks, caves and crevices. Sphoeroides Puffers may disturb and consume Invertebrates. A varied diet of larger meaty foods should be fed multiple times daily. Care will need to be taken when handling as Pufferfish tend to become quite alarmed, the use of a container is highly recommended. Pufferfish are intelligent and have a wonderful personality, they will make a great addition to large fish only aquariums. House with tank mates with similar temperament and size. Sphoeroides Pufferfish generally start out in freshwater and begin migrating towards marine waters.

Checkered Pufferfish are also sometimes known simply as the Checkered Puffer. Uncommonly seen in the aquarium trade. Checkered Pufferfish are generally a tan to yellow color with a combination of small and large dark irregular spots and a white belly. Checkered Pufferfish can grow to slightly more than 7".

We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 75 gallons or larger for this species.
