Crocodilefish

(Cociella crocodila)

Crocodilefish should be added to large aquariums with a deep sand bed and rocky rubble. They are bottom dwelling fish that lack a swim bladder. They will partially bury and camouflage themselves in order to ambush benthic small fish and crustaceans. Crocodilefish are nocturnal requiring night time feedings of meaty preparations. Juveniles are black and as they mature begin to take on a brown, blotchy coloration to camouflage itself.

Crocodilefish are also known as the Crocodile Flathead. Not often seen in the aquarium trade. Crocodilefish are mainly brown with small dark spots and dark brown stripes. Crocodilefish can grow to almost 12".

We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 100 gallons or larger for this species.
