Nutramar Tigrio - Live Copepods Now Available

Nutramar has added another fine addition to their growing line of all natural foods.

Nutramar Tigrio is a packaged culture of living Tigriopus sp. copepods. These copepods are an excellent source of nutrition for your marine aquarium inhabitants as they contain much protein and essential unsaturated fatty acids (HUFAs). Besides being a great food for fishes and invertebrates, these copepods will inhabit the aquarium and serve the function of active detritivores.

Why Buy Nutramar Tigrio?

Each bottle of Nutramar Tigrio contains hundreds of live Tigriopus sp. copepods which can be directly added to your aquarium or refugium. The copepods erratic swimming motion will tempt many finicky fishes to begin feeding eagerly. This is an excellent food for filter feeding corals and other invertebrates. Nutramar Tigrio is cultured in purified and ozonized saltwater in a controlled environment.

Feeding Instructions

It is completely safe to add Nutramar Tigrio directly to your aquarium. Actively feeding fish will seek out the copepods when the aquarium is illuminated. If you wish to establish an ongoing population of these copepods, it is recommended to add them during darkness or into a refugium. This will give the copepods a chance to settle into protected locations. Nutramar Tigrio bottles are equipped with a convenient dispenser spout which may be used for target feeding. After cutting the tip of the plastic spout, standard airline tubing may be attached to provide specific feeding to any organism. A small cap is provided to seal the bottle after each use.

How to Seed Your Refugium

A population of Tigriopus copepods may be established within your refugium by adding an entire bottle to an area with reduced water flow. If phytoplankton and detritus are available to them in sufficient quantity, the copepods may be expected to perpetuate themselves within the confines of the refugium. From there, they will provide a continual source of food for the inhabitants of the aquarium.

Storage

Nutramar Tigrio should be stored at a consistent temperature below 75F, and out of direct sunlight. This will prevent harmful temperature fluctuations and algae growth. Oxygen is consumed by the living copepods, and so it is recommended to remove the cap for a short period of time each day to provide gas exchange. For long-term storage, it is recommended that Nutramar Tigrio be refrigerated between 40-50F.
