Flame Hawkfish

Hawkfish should be added to aquariums with plenty of rock work. Adult Neocirrhites Hawkfish lack a swim bladder. Be sure to provide ample ledges, caves, cracks and crevices in order for them to perch and hide. Most Hawkfish are small, hardy and quite colorful making them a good addition to a home aquarium. All Hawkfish start life as a female with the largest most dominant fish becoming a male. Hawkfish are carnivores and will consume very small fish and other invertebrates. Feed a varied diet of meaty and algae based foods multiple times daily. Neocirrhites Hawkfish are somewhat feisty and will defend their territory, house one per aquarium. Neocirrhites should be housed with tank mates that are not easily harrassed.

Flame Hawkfish are also sometimes known as the Brilliant Red Hawkfish. Commonly seen in the aquarium trade. Flame Hawkfish are one of the most popular Hawkfishes. They are a bright red with dark spots around their eyes and the base of their dorsal. Flame Hawkfish can grow to almost 3".

We recommend a minimum aquarium size of 30 gallons or larger for this species.
