Quality Marine provides the aquarium industry with the highest quality and widest selection of marine fish and invertebrates. We work tirelessly to support responsible operators that collect in a sustainable manner and protect the reef habitat. Reefhab is a Quality Marine initiative dedicated to coral reef conservation, reef habitat restoration, and poverty alleviation. Sustainability is essential for the long-term viability of our trade and for the health of our oceans. Positive outcomes from coral reef research brings an immense amount of joy to everyone at Quality Marine.

The health of our oceans and planet should be a priority because they directly affect our future and what type of world we will have. A new paper has been published by the Global Warming Policy Foundation that discusses the state of the world’s coral reefs. The author of this paper is reef scientist Dr. Peter Ridd who suggests that the coral coverage for Australia’s Great Barrier Reed is at record highs. He goes onto discuss how coral bleaching events are almost always followed by rapid recoveries. The real risks to reefs come from overfishing and pollution. Dr. Ridd states “Corals get energy from a symbiotic relationship with various species of algae. When environmental conditions change, they can rapidly switch to a different species that is better suited to the new conditions. This shapeshifting means that most setbacks they suffer will be short-lived.” To learn more about this study go to Marine Insight’s article on Dr. Ridd World’s Coral Reefs Not Declining, New Paper Reveals (marineinsight.com)
