The Newest and Coolest from Nutramar

For you all who wisely see no dividing line between marine fish keeping and freshwater aquariums and thus read the really great stuff over on www.qualitymarine.com, you may already be aware that Nutramar has not been content with how the cookie crumbles and so have decided to make their own... Crumbles. You all (probably) know by now that we use Nutramar here in house (and over at Quality Marine) because we think this is the best food made (we also feed and trust Gamma, but that's another article.)

You don't need to get panicky, Nutramar's trusted freshwater formulas are still both perfectly intact, yeah, we are pumped too. You can still buy Freshwater Complete, and if you're unfamiliar, this is the food you can feed to just about everything that swims, crawls or sits and filters in freshwater (and fits in aquariums.) Its balanced nutrition and protein, with a wide range of nutrients and vitamins, is good for everything that isn't vegetarian! That's where Nutramar's other freshwater food comes in, Algae and Color Boost. This is formulated from a range of appropriate and nutritious freshwater alga. It features more herbaceous matter and lower protein density to make it more appropriate for the fish that like to hit the salad bar hard. Both foods contain naturally occurring attractants to make them seem as delectable as they should!

Both the formulas are still available as 1.75mm pellets but are now available as both 0.8mm and 1.5mm pellets, making them appropriate for the vast majority of aquarium fish. Both formulas are also still available as the ever-popular, totally genius shots that can be stuck to the glass or any other hard surface. After fish realize the shots are food, pretty much every species lines up for a go, but where they really shine is for the grazing fish, especially the pickier ones. If a fish is used to slurping up their meals from stuff stuck to driftwood or rocks, Shots offer them one of the only natural feeding methods available in processed fish foods today. It is nothing short of revolutionary. So, what's new then you ask? This is where the cookie stays totally intact, but the fish food crumbles!

Crumbles are available in both formulas. In the container, this is a 1.75mm hunk of food, but it's designed to crumble, both when you squish it between fingers and thumbs, or when larger fish eat the whole whack of delicious. This leaves behind smaller bits of nutrition for smaller fish as well as filter feeding invertebrates. Crumbles are incredibly clean, so what's left behind isn't just binder and dust, but actual food that gets quickly consumed. This is a perfect product for a mixed community tank where there is a wide range of mouth size in the display. Between the crumbles and the shots, there is little these two products won't feed! Like all food, you want to only feed as much as your fish will consume in a meal, without leaving any behind. This can be a primary food or added to a mix of other Nutramar products or even as a supplement to a diet rich in Gamma Frozen offerings!
