The Hap Paropius Cichlid is a beautiful Lake Malawi haplochromine cichlid known for its elongated body, active swimming style, and attractive male coloration that can develop into shades of blue, silver, and yellow. As an open-water predator, it naturally hunts smaller fish and invertebrates among rocky areas and sandy zones of Lake Malawi. In the aquarium, this species requires a large tank of 100 gallons or more with excellent filtration, open swimming space, and rockwork that provides shelter and territory boundaries. It prefers hard, alkaline water with temperatures around 76–82°F and should be kept with other similarly sized, robust Malawi cichlids. Its diet should include high-quality carnivorous cichlid pellets, mysis shrimp, krill, and other protein-rich foods while avoiding excessive fatty foods. With proper space, stable water conditions, and compatible tankmates, the Hap Paropius Cichlid becomes an impressive and active centerpiece fish that showcases the beauty and behavior of Lake Malawi predators.
