Gulper Catfish

The Gulper Catfish is a fascinating and formidable freshwater predator native to the Amazon Basin. Known for its massive mouth and expandable stomach, it can swallow prey nearly as large as itself, making it a species best suited for experienced aquarists. This catfish thrives in spacious aquariums of at least 100 gallons, with excellent filtration and subdued lighting that mimics its dark, slow-moving river habitat. The Gulper is a solitary, nocturnal ambush predator, so it should be housed alone or with fish too large to be eaten. Its diet consists mainly of meaty foods such as frozen fish, shrimp, and carnivore pellets, though feeding should be controlled to prevent overconsumption. Despite its intimidating nature, the Gulper Catfish is a calm, slow-moving species that displays remarkable personality and intelligence, making it a captivating centerpiece for specialized predatory setups.
