Fire Eel (Mastacembelus erythrotaenia)
The Fire Eel is a peaceful fish that will surely attract everyone's eye to your aquarium. It is commonly found in Southeast Asian’s slow moving rivers and flood plains. They prefer aquarium settings that mimic their natural habitat, like a planted aquarium. But, do not fret if you do not have a planted tank! Just provide an aquarium with a sandy substrate and pieced of cured drift wood. They will spend most of their time hiding and will come out to swim during the evening or when the lights are off. Also make sure the aquarium has a tight canopy because like all eels, this one likes to find a way out of it. The Fire eel can live with other fish as long as they are the same temperament and larger than their mouth. For continued health feed a variety of frozen meaty foods.
