Photo of the Week - Male Cirrhilabrus pylei

Cirrhilabrus genus wrasses will go through distinct color phases as they develop. Generally the female and sub-adult phases are very similar, if not the same. Dominant fish will sometimes turn male, a transition that brings with it some extravagant coloration. The peak of this color transformation is commonly called "Terminal Coloration" and this Blue Margin Fairy Wrasse is an excellent example of this phenomenon.
