Photo of the Week - Balistes vetula

Balistes vetula or the Queen Trigger is an Atlantic trigger fish found in coastal waters, usually at depths of 90 feet or less in conjunction with rocky or coral areas. They can be found both singly and in schools. They will eat just about anything, but love invertebrates; they will eat sea urchins by blowing water to overturn them, then attacking where the spines are short.

They have been caught at up to 2 feet long, though a max size of about half that is more reasonably expected in home aquaria.

They are occasionally caught as sport fish and are reported to be excellent eating as well, on the other hand, they are also reported as toxic. (But at least that last meal will be tasty.)

I used www.fishbase.org as a source of info for this article. You can read more about the Queen trigger by clicking the highlighted text.
